Hackwater.net begins to stir from its long slumber

Wordpress 2.1 came out a couple of weeks ago, so I'll be installing that here soon. I just have to get my plugins and other custom crap out of the way so that I can put it back after installation.

Took a month off

Greetings, Googlers! You may be interested in my code samples, my little Google Maps toy, or my self-congratulatory afflatus. Or maybe you're interested in my theory as to why geeks do some of the things they do? If you're here for outdated Benzene information, see the link in the sidebar; I mostly keep that around for sentimental value, so I won't be linking to it from here.

Not so quick update

I finally got website hits from below the equator (hello, Kiwis and Aussies!) and also got hits from Korea and Norway. Greetings all. I guess this means I need to update the map page. I think it's really cool that I can use Google Maps to get a vague idea of where my visitors come from, even the indexing spiders. (I realize that hostip.info, which does my IP to geographic coordinate conversions is not the most accurate in the world, but I have to assume that it can at least get countries correctly.

In which I finally get my server operational

Lots of exciting news: I've got a Gmail account! A good friend sent me an invite, so now I can take my new 1 GB Google account for a spin. More importantly, my Linux web server is operational, running Debian Sarge, Apache 2, and PHP 4. There won't be any real changes to this page, though, until I get a top-level domain and Dynamic DNS service. Until then, this page will continue to be hosted by Earthlink.
